Travertine

Travertine is a highly regarded, elegant and versatile natural stone, suitable for many applications in residential, commercial and public areas. It is a natural limestone, a sedimentary rock, formed around 10-20 million years ago by the deposition of minerals such as calcium from thermal waters or springs. Its composition is characterised by the presence of small pores and the superposition of various levels of rock mass.

Classical Travertine is typically beige, with variations ranging from sandy tones to greyish hues.

SENINI STONE Travertine

SENINI STONE is a leading manufacturer specializing in natural stone flooring and wall coverings, processing and producing Travertine quarried in Lazio, Italy. The company works directly with quarries to ensure the highest quality Travertine blocks. Since 1996, SENINI STONE has been a pioneer in antique stone flooring, processing Italian Travertine for both interior and exterior applications, and has gained international recognition for its craftsmanship. The company offers a wide range of natural Travertine shades, including beige, taupe, grey, brown, yellow, and red.

Travertine varieties

SENINI STONE offers a wide choice of natural Travertine tiles tone varieties ranging from beige, taupe, grey, brown to yellow or red.

Classic Travertine

Classic Travertine, in a light creamy beige colour, represents the most traditional type and is highly sought after for high-end projects to reproduce a modern contemporary and elegant style with real natural material.

Etruscan Travertine

Etruscan Travertine, named after ancient Etruria (now Lazio and Tuscany), is characterised by its beige background, fading to greyish and brownish streaks. It is an interesting variety, in which SENINI STONE excels, which adds a touch of movement to the surface and is often chosen for rustic, natural and varied floor and wall coverings.

San Peter Travertine

San Peter Travertine is hazel-coloured, cloudy from dark beige to light brown and has irregular cavities typical of mountain Travertine.

Scabas Travertine

Scabas, a rare Tuscan Travertine, with a hazelnut-beige background like Travertino San Peter, fades to reddish, dark brown, greyish, with yellow ochre, whitish, pinkish and sometimes black streaks. Loved by enthusiasts of warm colours, of exhausted extinction, but still with some exceptional unique availability in SENINI STONE.

Walnut Travertine

Walnut Travertine, a darker variety, ranges from brown to hazelnut with possible greyish hues. Its more intense hue compared to other types of Travertine (tiles) makes it ideal for rooms that require a more charged, warm and welcoming appearance. It is often used as a decoration or border in combination with other light Travertine shades.

Silver Striated Travertine

Silver Striated Travertine stands out for its irregular, parallel streaks running through the stone, creating a unique visual effect. The distinctive veins—more or less pronounced—provide an elegant and sophisticated look, making it a perfect choice for decorative walls and special flooring applications.

Persian travertines

SENINI STONE also works with Persian Travertines, including Persia Yellow and Persia Red Travertine, known for their rich, warm hues. These stones are ideal for luxurious and high-end settings and add color and vibrancy to Travertine compositions.

Cutting Techniques for Travertine

When working with natural stones like Travertine, the stone is typically cut either along the vein or across it. These two cutting methods highlight very different characteristics of the material, significantly influencing its appearance and aesthetic appeal.

Difference between CC Travertine and VC Travertine tiles

Cross-cut Travertine
At SENINI STONE, unless otherwise specified, the Travertine block is cut in a cross-cut style, also known as “cut with bedding”, which means it is cut parallel to the layers. This cutting method creates the signature “cloudy” effect, with veining not visible, though it may appear along the edges if the stone thickness is substantial. This cutting technique is ideal for Travertine flooring due to its superior durability and soft, welcoming appearance. The abbreviation “CC” (Cross Cut with Bed) often accompanies product names for this style.

Vein-cut Travertine
In contrast, Vein-cut Travertine is cut perpendicularly to the layers, exposing the stone’s natural veins and creating the characteristic irregular lines. This cutting technique enhances the veining pattern, creating a more pronounced, linear aesthetic. It is also referred to as “cut across the bed” and often labeled as “VC” (Vein Cut Across Bed).

Luisa Senini and the qualified SENINI STONE team follow the orders by checking the entire production cycle: from the choice and selection of the block directly in the quarry, to its cutting and processing, up to the realisation of the finished product ready for installation. The company is based in Montichiari Brescia, where the offices, showroom, production and large warehouse are located.

Why choose Italian Travertine?

Choosing Italian Travertine over stones from other regions offers several benefits: quality, tradition, and prestige. Italian Travertine is renowned for its exceptional quality, owing to centuries of quarrying expertise. The most famous deposits, like those in Tivoli, have been used since ancient times, including in iconic structures such as the Colosseum in Rome. SENINI STONE’s experienced team carefully selects only the finest materials, ensuring a high-quality product.

Italian Travertine is prized for its aesthetic appeal, featuring a fine, varied palette of colors and veining. Shades of beige, cream, and hazelnut are especially favored for their brightness and timeless beauty. This stone adds historical and cultural value to any project, elevating the overall design and prestige. Moreover, Italian Travertine’s longevity means it requires less frequent replacement, promoting long-term sustainability.

SENINI STONE, specializing in Travertine flooring and cladding, is recognized globally for its exceptional service and product quality. Choosing Italian Travertine is not just about material quality; it’s about embracing a tradition of excellence and adding cultural and architectural significance to your project.

100% NATURAL material

Travertine is a sustainable, eco-friendly choice, adhering to circular economy principles. The 100% natural raw material is used in its entirety and is recyclable, reducing environmental impact. This makes it a smart choice for those seeking an eco-conscious solution while also providing the best cost-benefit ratio, as the price is primarily driven by the cost of raw materials rather than additives, marketing, or other factors.

Travertine’s porosity provides excellent thermal and acoustic insulation, helping maintain a stable indoor temperature and reducing unwanted noise. Its structure also offers excellent frost resistance and creates a natural friction grip, making it less slippery without the need for anti-slip treatments.

Due to its versatility, Travertine can be used in a variety of applications: flooring, stairs, fireplaces, bathroom fixtures like washbasins and shower trays, and both interior and exterior cladding, such as facades. Contact SENINI STONE for a personalized quote.

SENINI STONE Travertine, a unique type of Travertine flooring, is cut in the cross-cut style (cloudy effect), parallel to the layers, unless otherwise stated. The material is 100% natural and not pre-treated during production (except where specified, such as for kitchen countertops). On-site protective or revitalizing treatments can be applied based on the specific requirements of each project.

Travertine can be precisely cut and shaped, allowing for custom designs and applications.
